About me and the Jamboree

Hi I’m Samantha, I am 14 years old and have been in scouting for about nine years now. I am an explorer scout and have been through beavers, cubs, scouts to get to explorers. In that time I have been awarded the Gold Chief Scout award which is the highest award a scout can attain. I enjoy scouting because of all the new skills you learn, the friends you make and the fun you have. There’s something for everyone in scouting.

The activities available to scouts are on a massive spectrum from camping to flying a plane. Doing activities such as these will help you obtain badges. In my time in scouting I have obtained many badges.

I was lucky enough to be chosen to go to the 21st World Scout Jamboree through the dedication I show and the enjoyment I get from scouting.

Now some of you maybe wondering ‘What is the World Scout Jamboree?’ Well I’ll tell you. A Jamboree is a meeting of Scouts and Guides from one country or from hundreds. All the scouts meet up and have fun. Everyone who becomes a scout lives under the same promise. To do our best, to help other people, and to keep the scout law.’ the scout law is ‘A scout is to be trusted. A scout is loyal. A scout is friendly and considerate. A scout makes good use of time and is careful of possessions and property, and a scout has self respect and respect for others.’ You think reading it is bad we have to memorise it!

All scouts live in one world and make the same promise, so the jamboree theme is ‘One World One Promise.’ But this is no ordinary Jamboree, oh no, this Jamboree is to celebrate 100 years of scouting! This Jamboree is going to be the biggest youth gathering ever held in history! We expect over 40,000 scouts will be attending from over 216 countries! Is that a lot of scouts or what?...

Piece of info for you, there are more countries that have scouts than country’s that attend the Olympics, this means its going to be BIG! It’s going to take us between half and hour to forty minutes to walk across the campsite to get to the activity were meant to be on. I’m going to be shattered by the end of it!

As well as preparing for the World Scout Jamboree I am training to become a young leader, add school work and that means I’m a very busy person, but I will try to update this Blog as often as I can.
